The infantry linking workaround is not really the best thing and doesn't apply on tanks, etc.
What about this:

[Groups]
1=Dogs
2=Engineers
3=...

[ADOG]
Primary=...
Group=Dogs

[SDOG]
Primary=...
Group=Dogs

[AENGINEER]
Primary=...
Group=Engineers

[SENGINEER]
Primary=...
Group=Engineers

I guess that easy to implement...
