Bug Description

Now that ntfs-3g has hit a stable release (which is in feisty, albeit with the rc1 version label), perhaps it would be a good idea to backport it.

From what I understand the newer releases of ntfs-3g require the newer FUSE version in Feisty, and performance/safety furthermore only improves when these new FUSE features are available.

Info for users, looking for stable version of ntfs write support (ntfs-3g 1.0). There are binary deb packages of ntfs-3g 1.0 and fuse 2..6.3, read info at http://flomertens.keo.in/ubuntu/

Short instructions:

You will need to edit your /etc/apt/sources.list using your favorite texte editor (gedit, kate, nano, vim...) and add at the end of the file one of the following mirror :

#Givre's repository (ntfs-3g & fuse 2.6.3)
deb http://flomertens.keo.in/ubuntu/ edgy main main-all
deb-src http://flomertens.keo.in/ubuntu/ edgy main main-all

There are also user-friendly GUI tool for enabling/disabling NTFS write support - ntfs-config, look at https://launchpad.net/ntfs-config for more info
