I had the same problem, but if I remove the btnx directory, I get

/usr/share/btnx-config/btnx-config.glade
Error: keycodes_parse could not open /etc/btnx/events: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden
Error: cannot continue without keycodes. Quitting.

For me I had only to make a file called btnx_config_Default

But the btnx-config induce this bug itsself:
I uninstalled btnx and remove /etc/btnx and installed btnx again, btnx-config was installed all the time.
Then I run btnx-config, click on "NEW" for a new config and exit without any changes.
Now, if I start btnx-config again, I get exactly this error. The default config seems to be renamed to "btnx_config_new config".

You need to remove just the file /etc/btnx/btnx_manager - then it will work again.

I think it happens when you start the gui, don't finish configuring your mouse, and then try to start it again.

I ran into this problem when I created a new configuration that wasn't named Default. I just made a copy of /etc/btnx/btnx_config_Use_This_1 and called it btnx_config_Default. Replace Use_This_1 with whatever one of your configurations was named.
