Bug Description

Currently the program uses many asserts at the beginning of important methods.
This looks inelegant, and Pydev does not use it for type inference.

Therefore change to a type checking library. I'm quite interested if using type
checking libraries increase the readability compared to asserts. Also test how
complicated are type checking libraries compared to asserts.
