Bug Description

After Ubuntu startup image, the screen goes black. Half the time upon boot "Error 110" transferring data sector listing a different sector number each time the message will appear on ubuntu startup image. 3rd reinstall and still have the same problem. Could not find any similar issues and assume it is a bug.

Same issue here.

Nexus 7 32GB (GSM)
Ubuntu 13.04 build from 14 Feb. Installed using multirom. First boot after unpacking the screen goes blank after splash screen.

Also tried using the Serial Debug Shell. Unfortunately cannot login. What would be the login/password to login through Serial debug shell ? Also where can I find archived builds ?

I have the same issue except i have tried 2 different ways. first with the installer from the repository and second from a manual unpack using fastboot. Both were the same exact result. I get no errors during the verbose startup everything checks [ok] but immediately after the initial reboot with the tablet still plugged in the network connections on whatever pc i'm using will begin to disconnect and reconnect randomly. This is directly caused by my tablet being plugged into the machine after the first reboot.

If anyone would like me to i can make a video of what happens and post it on youtube.
Nexus 7 16gb
Ubuntu 12.04 LTS on both a pc and a laptop this was tested with same results
Blank screen after splash same screen after hard reset.

Tested: 12.10 from a forum still works, so i know i'm doing something right.

Confirmed with Nexus 7 16GB without 3G, tried installing immediately after flashing the following stock image: https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#nakasijdq39 https://dl.google.com/dl/android/aosp/nakasi-jdq39-factory-c317339e.tgz

Unpacks and then halts at black screen, waited around an hour three times now and not able to proceed.

note that we can not really accept bugs from the community image from xda-developers (while it is great for endusers it has multiple changes for the multiboot support that might taint bug results we are intrested in ... so if you want to help with bug triage and image development, please use the official images).

the black screen bug is being worked on with highest priority but is very hard to debug (it happens at a point where the device does not provide many input capabilities) for the time being i have put the last known working image at:

http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-preinstalled/last-good-image/

which you can install following teh instructions for manual installs on the nexus7 wikipage.

so i just found the issue, now to find a proper fix :)

(changing the exec line in /etc/init/oem-config.conf to read:
exec /usr/bin/dbus-launch --exit-with-session /usr/bin/ck-launch-session oem-config-firstboot $debug $automatic
fixes the issue ... but these commands should rather be called separately and not directly in the upstart job)

so we nailed it down to recent whoopsie changes, expect an upload with a fix soon ... the next image after the upload should function normally again.
