Bug Description

I want to use inkscape on windows 8 64 bit, Pentium Core i3, current version of inkscape. The program starts correctly, but several functions fail. I can't zoom by using Ctrl+ mouse wheel and some buttons do not react . I have tried several compatibility modes with no success.

Likely the same issue as already tracked in
- Bug #1131428 “Loss of correct mouse focus, Win 7 64bit”
  <https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1131428>

Note: the exact cause for bug #1131428 is unknown; based on user reports it does affect other Windows ports of GTK+ application as well (e.g. GIMP).

I've read the bug description. Yes, it is the same bug. Exaclty the same happened to me. Inkscape was working correctly and then it happened, maybe after installing a windows update. Is there any solution in sight?

Thanks for taking a closer look and confirming that it is about the same issue. Linking this report as duplicate to bug #1131428.

Based on the currently available information this will likely have to be addressed in the GTK+ toolkit first, not in individual applications based on the toolkit. Once a bug-fix release of GTK+ is available, it will be used for new Windows packages of Inkscape, too (either for future bug-fix releases of 0.48.x, or for the next major version (0.49)).

Personally, I'm not aware that this has been acknowledged yet as upstream bug (Caveat: I don't follow upstream reports about the Windows backend in GTK+ closely since I'm not using Windows myself). Last time I did a search in the bug tracker of GTK+ and GIMP (probably a couple of months ago), I found several reports about seemingly the same (or at least related) issue - the reports however had not all been linked to a common underlying problem IIRC. The ones I had bookmarked at that time were 687624, 688118, 691887, 692799, 694401, 699282 (all bug numbers refer to bugzilla.gnome.org).

Thanks for your answer. This is not good because there is no real alternative to inkscape...
