Bug Description

Tried to upgrade from Ubuntu 10.04 LTS to 12.04 LTS failed. There were some messages about conflicts in update manager window, followed by a short traceback from logger (closed file/io err), but that window was not selectable because of the pop-up window.

Tried to do the update from command line with do-release-upgrade. It has issues with locale (lv).. it asks "Continue [iN]", but acepts only j (not y and not i). Anyhow, got the output:

Vai vēlaties sākt uzlabošanu?

Canonical vairs neatbalsta 29 instalētas pakotnes. Vēl aizvien var
dabūt atbalstu no kopienas.

86 pakotnes tiks noņemtas. 932 pakotnes tiks instalētas. 1021
pakotne tiks uzlabota.

Atjauninājumu saņemšana un instalēšana var aizņemt vairākas
stundas. Kolīdz lejupielāde ir pabeigta, atjauninājumu
instalēšanu vairs nevar atcelt.

Uzlabošana pabeigta

Uzlabošana ir pabeigta, bet tās laikā bija kļūdas.

I have no idea how to resolve this.

Also before this I tried to boot from USB with Ubuntu 12.04 and upgrade using that, but in the install dialogue the upgrade option was disabled without any indication of the reason.

I managed to finish upgrade after some thinkering. This is what I did:
~$ sudo aptitude install xserver-xorg-video-nouveau
~$ sudo aptitude install pulseaudio
~$ sudo apt-get install -o APT::Immediate-Configure=false -f apt python2.7-minimal
~$ sudo aptitude install update-manager
~$ sudo aptitude install firefox
~$ sudo apt-get upgrade
~$ sudo aptitude upgrade
~$ sudo aptitude upgrade
~$ sudo aptitude upgrade
~$ partial update in update-manager

At the beginning there were a couple of packages which aptitude downgraded to resolve some dependency issues and then there was an issue with python-minimal not being able to install when it wnated it.

Now I rebooted in the new one, but on the first boot it complained about syntax errors in grub.conf and not being able to mount swap, and was waiting for network connection for a long time (my network is configured to start when user logs in - it calls pon). These issues I have to look trough, but it seems to be working.
