(initramfs)

And the LiveCD system cannot be brought up.

This bug is marked as private because it is related to unreleased hardware.

Tribe 4 of Gutsy was released today. Could you test with it and report back? Additionally, were you able to install from the alternate CD? Thanks in advance.

The bug is still in Tribe 4. Tribe can be installed from the alternate
CD, but not from the Live CD.

Can you please attach as much of /proc/kmsg as possible? Thanks! Either a photograph of a few screenfulls or if possible a dump from the serial console would be helpful.

Thanks!

I used Serial Console to dump the output using two methods.

1. I use "cat /dev/ttyS0" on a Linux box and get the log file "cat
ttyS0.log".

2. I use Windows HyperTerminal and capture the text into
"HyperTerminal.log". When using HyperTerminal, the live system can start
successfully and I can even begin the installation process!

I cannot reproduce this with a tribe5 CD (i386 desktop) on a bearlake SDV. Can you try resetting to the BIOS defaults and trying?

I cannot reproduce this with tribe5 CDs (i386 desktop and IA32e desktop) on another weybridge box now.

The configuration of the weybridge box is:
Chipset: A2 steepping of the Intel Q35 Express Chiset. A2 steepping of the ICH9DO
BIOS version: SDBL1944

Kevin, would you please check the configuration in our Beijing Lab and post it here? Let's see what is different now.

Hi Xiaoyang,

I am sorry for late reponse due to I missed your message before.

I just tried to reproduce it on the weybridge which you used before and got the same issue, then I reset the BIOS to default setting, the issue disappeared!
Here is the configuration for this Machine:
  7.10 Tribe 5, x86_64 Live CD.

  BIOS version: 08.00.14
  Build Date: 06/01/07
  ID: VVBLI954

  Chipset: A1.

To identify the root cause, I tried to reproduce the issue on other Weybridges without reseting BIOS, but I can see such issue any more. I have tried on 4 other weybridges here, incuding two types, I listed below, unfortunately, I can not find the root cause in BIOS setting because I can not reproduce it anymore.
  one type is using A2,
      BIOS version: 08.00.14
      Build Date: 05/08/07
      ID: SDBLI944

  one type is using A1,
      BIOS version: 08.00.14
      Build Date: 06/01/07
      ID: VVBLI954

Then I tried to use tribe 4 i386 version, it works fine as well.

Thanks Kevin for your hard work on this bug.

This bug can now be _closed_ as it cannot be reproduced on any other Weybridges, and a BIOS update fixed the original problem on the original Weybridge machine.

Unfortunately, we cannot root-cause what the original problem might have been, but as long as this isn't being seen on any other Weybridges, I think it is safe to close it at this stage.
