Bug Description
The playback used to work back in Hardy Heron. I just tested it in live session with kernel 2.6.24-26-generic i686 today. But then recording through stereo mics of the laptop did not work. This bug has been there at least since Lucid Lynx.
This has been reported bug #882566 originally.
