Bug Description

Hi Friends,
I just installed the 64-bit version of 0.91pre2, in case I might want to make a new drawing for the about screen contest. There's something funky with the icons on some of the control bars and dialogs. This is on Win7, 64-bit. Rather than list them all, I'll attach some screenshots.

For the Selection tool control bar, please see selection.png. The 2nd through 11th icons from the left are blurred. The last 4 on the right end, are really tiny!

Node tool control bar, please see node.png. The 14 icons from the right are all blurred. And the 4th from the right, and possible 5th from right end are also blurred.

Tweak tool control bar -- all icons a smaller than in all previous versions, but not blurred. They can be seen and identified, but it's a little harder than their previous size. No screenshot for this.

For Zoom tool, please see zoom.pnh.PNG. (sorry, I miss-typed the file name) I won't describe, but you can see that some are blurred and some are not.

For Calligraphy tool, please see callig.png. You can see that 3 of the icons are really tiny!

Something tells me this has probably already been reported, but I really did search several different ways.

This is my first time seeing the new Gradient control bar, so I can't compare to the past. But you can see again, some are quite blurred, and the lock icon is miniscule! Please see grad.png attached.

For Connector tool control bar. Some blurred, and some.....I'm not sure what's wrong. Some are smaller than previous versions. And they seem to be partially transparent....or for some reason are quite light or faint. Please see connect.png

The Snap control bar icons are smaller than before.... Not a lot, but the change will make it harder for me. Please see snap.png, although again, some people may not even notice a difference.

In the Fill and Stroke dialog, the X (no fill) and ? (unset fill) icons are slightly blurred (both Fill and Stroke Paint tabs). Both fill rule buttons are tiny! Please see fns.png

The Align and Distribute dialog icons are unchanged, except under Rearrange section, the "Nicely arrange connector network" icon is blurred. No screenshot for this.

Note that before posting this, I installed 0.91pre2 32-bit, and it does not share....exactly the same issues. Not sure if I can attach 2 files.... After I post this, I'll add a comment with another zip file attached.

Please see select32.png (attached to next comment) for Selection control bar, in 32 bit version. The same icons are affected, but in 32 bit, they are much less blurred. Still somewhat blurred though. However, the 4 on the right end of control bar are the normal size, as in previous versions.

New gradient control bar -- same icons affected, but again, not AS MUCH blurred, but still slightly blurred and sort of partially transparent. See grad32.png

Connector tool icons look just like in 64-bit version.

Everything else is as in previous versions.

It seems the Redo button doesn't work at all, in either 32 or 64, but I'll make a new report for that.

Sorry if this is a duplicate, but I searched.

Thanks for listening :-)

Another difference, not exactly about icons.

In 64 bit 0.91 pre2, the palette is much smaller. Please see screenshot attached palette-size091pre2.png. The 64 bit version is on top, 32 bit is the window below. Both palettes are set to Tiny.

This is on Win7, 64-bit.

Thanks again :-)

Confirmed on Windows 7, Inkscape 0.91 (64-bit).
The 32-bit version is also affected, but to a far lesser extend.

Note that the blurred icons are not exactly the same between two sessions...

I also have inconsistent icon sizes, where some are affected by the icon size settings and others are not, but no blurred icons, with 0.92.0 on x86_64 Linux (compiled myself). My libgtk version is 2.24.23.

I just noticed most blurry icons can be "fixed" by disabling the preference
  "System -> Pre-render named icons"

If it's enabled it works around bug #929658 (missing icons in XML editor) which is why had that setting enabled initially.

Find attached two screenshots of Inkscape 0.92.2 with "Pre-render named icons" switched on and off respectively.

Possibly the resolution in which icons are rendered depends on *when* they are rendered in the initialization phase of Inkscape which might explain why some icons are blurred while others are not (and they might not be the same between sessions as jazzynico noted earlier).

This seems to be fixed with 1.0 alpha, so I'm declining to migrate this.

However, I can only say that it appears to have a fix released. Since I can't identify any specific code fix, I'm going to close by marking Invalid.

Changed in inkscape:
status: Triaged → Invalid
