Bug Description

At the bottom of Appendix B : http://docs.openstack.org/training-guides/content/building-training-cluster.html#lab_virtualbox-basics_setup_control_node

It says the following : In the next section we will go through deploying OpenStack using the above created VirtualBox instances.

The problem is that there is no next section. The next "section" of the appendix is appendix c which is the community resources page. There is nothing on that page about using the test lab we just setup.

If we jump past appendix c to the next section which is the associate training guide, it jumps straight into usage of the lab and assumes it is already setup, so the setup seems to be skipped.

If we follow the link off the community resources page to the ubuntu installation, it is using a different subnet from the vboxnets we setup in the building the training cluster guide.

So in short, there is no next section, or the section that should be there is missing. The guide references a section where we are supposed to be walked through the installation but that never happens. Also, the Appendix b suggests ubuntu 12 or 13 but the ubuntu installation page talks about ubuntu 14. It appears that none of the guides can agree on what version of ubuntu to use and reference missing sections of the documentation.

It explains how to use the vbox VMs to deploy Openstack in the Operator Training Guide, chapters 5. Controller Node Lab, 8. Network Node Lab and 11. Compute Node Lab.

The bug report is valid, since the Operator Training Guide is clearly not the "next" section - moreover the whole training guide could benefit from an update.

Anyway if your target is to deploy an Openstack installation on VMs testbed, I suggest you to follow the updated installation guide for Ubuntu (juno-based) and not the Operator Training Guide "Lab" (icehouse-based), just giving a look to how to use the host only connections in vbox (described in the Training guide) to emulate the different networks described in the installation guide.
If you need working floating IP, when you install neutron on network node you should also modify the /etc/network/interfaces with br-ex info as described in 8. Network Node Lab. This is the only difference with the steps described in the installation guide to have Openstack running on 3 VMs
