Bug Description

Steps to reproduce:
1. Install Ubuntu 15.10 from alpha cdimage (http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/wily-desktop-i386.iso, MD5 = 6aa900b327961389255b4ef0557ca8ca).
2. Install gnome-panel package.
3. Select GNOME Session Flashback (Compiz) from greeter (normal user or Guest session - it does not matter).

Expected results:
GNOME Session FlashBack is started, has two panels (top and bottom), there is no Unity launcher.

Actual results:
GNOME Session FlashBack is started, it has Unity panel in the left, gnome-panel in the bottom, top gnome-panel is hovered by Unity global menu panel (see screenshot).

Dmitry: any idea what is going on? Maybe this revision caused this?:

Yes, it might be caused by that revision. In the packaging, compiz-gnome.gsettings-override explicitly lists unityshell in enabled-plugins list (what a mess).

We either need per-session defaults in gsettings, or add a workaround for this to gnome-flashback.

Even after that, to have a working compiz session, we'll need my branch (lp:~mitya57/compiz/switcher-plugins-in-default) merged (bregma says he's discussing it with other devs).

My proposed solution would work. Unfortunately glib developers have not
responded to my last comments (I have feeling that they have not read them,
if they had then at least they could add comment that proposed solution is
not going to be accepted in any way).

I guess this needs to be fixed upstream, right? I might do it...

Is not this problem with only alt+tab? Does it break whole session?

I will try to ping desrt again...

It is alt+tab problem, but if we decide to have our own list of plugins, it will make sense to add some switcher plugin there, so we'll need that branch.

Well from upstream point it is even worse - no plugins are loaded - all are deselected. Do you know where is defined Default profile plugins? Is it empty?

Dmitry Shachnev (mitya57) wrote :

Yes, I think it's empty, but the default values can be specified at build
time.

See xslt/default_plugins.xslt (and metadata/core.xml.in) which has the
magic code for generating the list.

Thanks!

I think that we don't need workaround for this. Unity does not use Default profile - there is unity profile. Should not it be safe to remove unity plugins from Default profile:
