Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Fresh install of Ubuntu 7.10/Gutsy Gibbon.

X.org "intel" driver can't do 1600x1200 @ 60 Hz, monitor says "OUT OF RANGE". 1280x1024 works.
Added modeline for 1600x1200 manually, no improvement.
Changed driver to "i810" and it works (with modeline).

Packages:
- xorg, 7.2-5ubuntu13
- xserver-xorg-video-intel, 2.1.1-0ubuntu9
- xserver-xorg-video-i810, 1.7.4-0ubuntu5

Hardware:
- AOpen i915GMm-HFS motherboard.
- Intel 915 GM graphics (xorg.conf: Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Graphics Controller).
- LG 2010B LCD monitor.

Xorg.0.log files saved for both drivers.

Sounds like another modeline issue. Could you attach the output of `sudo ddcprobe` and `lspci -vvnn`?

Nothing as far as I can see, however the developers will find bugs marked as Incomplete (but with responses) far easier than just being another confirmed bug. You can mark it as "confirmed" if you wish.

The Hardy Heron Alpha series is currently under development and contains an updated version of the -intel driver. You can download and try the new Hardy Heron Alpha release from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/hardy/ . You should be able to test the new -intel driver using the LiveCD. If you can, please verify if this bug still exists or not and report back your results. General information regarding the release can also be found here: http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ .
Thanks.

Restoring to confirmed - the needed info is supplied; we just need to investigate modeline issues.

Heya,

It looks like something's erroneous with the EDID info provided by your monitor, but I'm not sure what. I've forwarded the bug upstream at https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16739. Could you please subscribe to that bug, so that if upstream needs additional info or has something for you to test you can work with them directly?

It would also be of interest if you could test your computer with a different monitor, and/or try that monitor with a different computer running Ubuntu. (My theory is that the former should work ok, the latter should fail). Also, if possible it would be helpful if you could double check this against Hardy 8.04.1 and/or Intrepid to make sure the problem still exists in the latest code.

Despite the difference in behavior between -i810 and -intel, I believe this is a monitor hotplug bug, which is in the xserver, so am reassigning it there.

Since the hardware is no longer available for doing troubleshooting
with, we'll have to close the bug for now. However please feel free to
reopen if you or anyone else has the same HW and can reproduce this
issue using the latest development version of Ubuntu and is willing to
do some troubleshooting with it.
