Unity8 session doesn't start under Virtualbox

Bug Description
I've installed Ubuntu Xenial 16.04.1 under virtualbox, then added the stable-
After rebooting, if I choose to login with the unity8 session and enter my password, after a few seconds (involving display mode changes) the screen gets back to the login screen.
I'm attaching the unity-system-
I tried both with and without installing the VirtualBox guest additions, and the result is the same.
