Inkscape will not launch - libXinerama not found

This is strange: libXinerama is present on my system at the location where
Inkscape searches it. Which version of X11 do you have (open X11 and go to
X11 > About X11)? Maybe your version is from Panther. Did you upgrade your
system from Panther to Tiger or installed Tiger on a blank system?

This looks similar to the bug I reported on Saturday. Have you installed
any fonts recently? I removed and replaced a font (Adler.ttf) and used the
current build from the repository. One or the other might have worked.

I'm running OS 10.3.9 and getting the same thing. Inkscape opens for two
or three seconds then shuts down

I need more info on this one. The problem is caused by libXinerama and
Michael confirmed what I thought on that matter:
- on 10.3 X11 does not contain libXinerama
- on 10.4 X11 contains libXinerama
Therefore we cannot mix and match things between the two systems. Hence:
- 10.3 users should only use X11 for Panther which can be downloaded from
Apple and use a 10.3 specific version of Inkscape which can be downloaded
there:

(choose Inkscape-0.45.1+python-2-PANTHER.dmg)
- 10.4 users should use X11 versions for Tiger (therefore a system
upgraded from Panther in which X11 was not updated would show the problem).
X11 is on the Tiger DVD, in the optional installs. And of course, they
should use a Tiger specific version of Inkscape (the default when
downloading from the website).

Did all the submitters have either of these conditions fulfilled and still
see the problem?

After careful review of all possible setups, it appears that a correct
configuration of the machine Inkscape is run on shold solve the problem.
The recommendations are:
- to update to the latest version of Inkscape:
      0.45.1 is to be found here

      or a development version after 2007-03-21 there
http://inkscape.modevia.com/macosx-snap/?C=M;O=D
- to use the latest version of X11
      found on Tiger DVD 1 for Tiger users: scroll down the DVD window,
double clic "Optional Installs", go through the license agreement and
destination selection. On the "Custom install" page select Applications>X11
and deselect everything else, hit Install. You're done.

With this setup, the issue should really be solved. Please report back

I'm setting this to incomplete in accordance with <URL http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/BugTriageProjects>.

(Specifically, there is no feedback to the proposed solution. It should be possible to confirm or close this based on such feedback.)

After reviewing the Xinerama issue this is in all likelihood caused by faulty X11 installs on Tiger, i.e. systems which were upgraded but on which X11 was kept at the Panther version. I'm therefore marking this as invalid: appart from pointing users in the right direction we can't do anything and, when I did nobody answered.
