Bug Description
Zooming should keep selected objects centered in view
so that objects are not "lost" after zooming in or out.
if nothing is selected zooming could default to the
center of the screen.
I have no idea what it zooms to now, the corner? But I
lose things a lot and have to zoom a little, center,
zoom a little, center, zoom a little, center, when I
use the key board of the scroll wheel on the mouse to
zoom, which is not very convenient.
selecting view > selection or view > drawing work fine
but they are "all the way in" or "all the way out" I'm
looking for something to give me more control in between.

I disagree. +/- key zooming zooms into the center of view
and that's the way it should be. That's the way it behaves
in all other apps. Even the title of your submission,
"Zooming should keep selected object centered", shows a
problem because it's unclear what to do if it was NOT
centered to start with? Or not even shown in the view? Shift
view to center on selection, then zoom? That often will give
unexpected results, and is in general counterintuitive. The
+/- keys have no assumed "position" on the screen and
therefore should zoom into/from center as now.
If you want to zoom into a particular point, that's what
middle-click and ctrl+wheel is for. They preserve the
relative position of the clicked point within view. Use them
on the selection or on any other point you want to keep in
the view.
