Bug Description

Sometimes objects that are outside of the page or
extent over the borders of the page are really
distracting, when it comes to layouting a flyer or a
poster. Therefore I'd like to see an option to clip the
viewed area to the page only.
This should be in the view menu, as a checkbox for easy
access.

Hey Alex!
Now, it actually is not :-)
I want to be able to see the whole page without being distracted, to zoom
in and out to see, how it might look at different distances.
To give an easy example, why it doesn't work: take a normal portrait
paper: when you zoom it to width, you don't see top and bottom, when you
zoom it to height, you see all the stuff that is outside of the page...
Basically it's like an on-canvas print-preview, what I want.

It would also be useful to be able to manually set the non-page background. For example, my page background is white, but it would be good to be able to clip the page contents to the page boundary, and use a different background colour for the parts not on the page (ie. black, or grey).

Duplicate Bug #1174229 (Add an option to mask everything not on the page or display it with an alpha effect) also suggests that we could use a different alpha value for the outside of the page.
