Bug Description

When moving through the preferences menu (Shift + Ctrl + P) using the arrow
keys the user is unable to expand sub sections (+) with the use of the left
and right arrow keys similar to what can be done in windows explorer.
This will allow consistency with the windows operating environment and
increase usability.

Reproduced on Windows XP, Inkscape 0.48.3.1.
Apparently fixed with 0.48.4 (and also works with 0.48.5 and trunk revision 13511).
To be confirmed on Gnu/Linux and OSX.

Not confirmed on OS X 10.7.5 - neither with latest stable nor with trunk is it possibly to unfold/fold sections in the list on the left of the preferences dialog with the arrow keys on the keyboard (doesn't work elsewhere in Inkscape either for GtkTreeViews).

Possibly a missing feature (or key binding) in GTK+ itself (same in gtk-demo)?

I've also tested with my other GTK based applications (Geany, Banshee...) and none of them can expand tree views, thus it seems it's a system wide configuration (or version) issue.

On Ubuntu Utopic, if I use Shift+Right Arrow and Shift+Left Arrow I can expand and contract the tree views... do these shortcuts work on Windows? This works in the Preferences dialog as well as XML Editor for me.

Thanks for the tip! It also works with Inkscape (stable and trunk) on Crunchbang Waldorf.

@~suv - Is the Shift+arrow shortcut consistent with the OSX environment?

Yes, works in gtk-demo and inkscape's preferences dialog (X11- and Quartz backend). I thought I had tested with modifiers, but apparently limited those test to 'Ctrl' and 'Alt' - thanks for the tip, ScislaC!

<off-topic>
Can't make it work for other expanders in Inkscape (e.g. 'Document Properties > Page' or in 'Find' (trunk)) to show/hide the additional options.
