Bug Description

In Hardy, when I press the volume buttons on my thinkpad t60p, the volume changes 13%, however if I use the scroll wheel on the volume applet, the volume only changes 5%. In any case, 13% is way to much, it goes from to low to to high, and I can see that the volume bar in the volume window that appears increases at least two notches with each press.

I propose that the volume button only changes the volume 5%, or better yet, that it is customisable.

Confirmed this behavior on IBM/Lenovo 3000 series with Ubuntu 7.10. Also is noticeable that under 50% volume level there is no sound at all. Seems like no good distribution of the volume levels.

It looks like we are double counting button presses. I stopped acpid from injecting volume events by commenting out the contents of these files:

/etc/acpi/events/thinkpad-volume-up and
/etc/acpi/events/thinkpad-volume-down

And my volume control operates as expected.

I can confirm this problem on my thinkpad too.

However, the volume buttons adjust with 21 percent! From 73% to 94% for instance. This is way too much. I suggest 5% as above.

Confirmed on a T42 running hardy with instant updates. I noticed that the problem has become worse with an update around last week. The volume keys used to in-/decrease volume by 9%, which I find too much already (I'd also favour 5%). Since that update the volume jump doubled, I could even see the double event taking place in the OSD. Everytime I pressed the keys, the volume bar increased two times quickly after another, adding up to a volume jump of 19%.

I use past tense here because modifying the acpi-events files like described helped to restore the "default" behavior.

Anyways, I'd like to be able to configure the amount of volume reduction/increase via a config file of some sort. If that is already possible, maybe someone can point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance,

Martin
