Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in linux the kernel package.

Hi Ravensun,

Care to confirm this is still an issue with the latest Alpha for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10. You should be able to test via a LiveCD - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing. Please let us know your results. If the issue still exists, per the kernel team's bug policy, can you please attach the following information. Please be sure to attach each file as a separate attachment.

* cat /proc/version_signature > version.log
* dmesg > dmesg.log
* sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log

And if you could wait to capture the dmesg output until after you've tried inserting a card that would be great. It will hopefully log some useful debugging information. For more information regarding the kernel team bug policy, please refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies . Thanks again and we appreciate your help and feedback.

The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux-image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and test.

--or--

2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4. Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced. You should then be able to test via a LiveCD.

Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the 2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26 kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback.

I have Ubuntu 8.04 installed and I noticed that multicard reader with kernel 2.6.24-19-generic do NOT recognize and mount my SD and Compact Flash cards.
I rebooted the machine with the previous kernel 2.6.24-16-generic and multicard reader now mounts my SD cards. It's a problem related to kernel from 2.6.24-16 to 2.6.24-19 or another strange configuration error?
I looked to kernel logs and I notice that with kernel 2.6.24-19 nothing happens when I insert the SD card but the USB hub integrated with the multicard reader works correctly.

I have not enabled some tool for working with media.
In czech it called "Výměnné mechaniky a média"
So SD cards are now working, but Memory stick pro duo and Smart Media cards did not work.

I have the same problems with my "4-in-1 CardReader" "O2 Micro, Inc. OZ711M1/MC1".
Using Ubuntu 8.10.

It shows up on when using "lspci" but nothing happens when I insert an SD-card.

Let me know if I can help...

There is a driver that used to work (according to http://www.denraf.be/category/tagcloud/o2micro). The driver is dependant on the PCSCLite package.

I have tried this but realise that PCSCLite have evolved beyond the "O2Micro OZSCR PCMCIA Smartcardbus Reader Driver for kernel 2.6" installer.

The installer claims that PCSCLite is not installed even though it is. So I have not been able to test if the OZSCR-driver works.

Can anybody help me with this, i.e. updating the installer script?

The driver-package can be found here "http://pieleric.free.fr/o2scr/" and is also attached.

Unfortunately it seems this bug is still an issue. Can you confirm this issue exists with the most recent Jaunty Jackalope 9.04 release - http://www.ubuntu.com/news/ubuntu-9.04-desktop . If the issue remains in Jaunty, please test the latest upstream kernel build - https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Let us know your results. Thanks.
