Bug Description

Strange behaviours happens when I try to maximize Inkscape, the whole window moves up and over pass the screen. There are also strange behaviours with the menus at right (like "align"), I have to resize the window by hand to be able to use them.

I am using Kubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron with the latest Inkscape package.

I'm not sure if it's the same problem, but I'm also having issues with Inkscape 0.46 in Hardy Heron. (that I did not have with 0.45.1 in Fiesty Fawn) The minimum height of the window is larger than my desktop, so I cannot get to the lowest toolbar, and maximizing the window makes nothing happen. I'm attaching a screenshot of the application running maximized.

I'm not running Kubuntu though, I'm running Ubuntu.

I agree, the bug that Alexander details looks like a clone of #221676,
however, the original report isn't

Doesn't seem to be a problem in Ubuntu. Just tested this and some other things from a live CD. So something is wrong on the KDE side.

I presume this is KDE 3 (default for Kubuntu 8,04 I believe), not KDE 4 (optional for 8.04) you're using.

Yes, it's KDE3.

Doing what was suggested in #221676 fixed my problem. Thanks.

I found that if I un-attach the toolbar that is at left (the one which has the normal arrow, the arrow to edit nodes, etc (the only one vertical)), the problems dissapears.
I assume that the problem is that this bar cannot hide buttons automatically when they doesn't fit the screen.

I solved the problem for me by selecting small icons in the preferences. However, I think this issue still a bug, because the logical behaviour should be to hide the buttons that cannot fit the screen (just as the horizontal bars)

Had the same problem as Alexander Krivács Schrøder: http://launchpadlibrarian.net/13966491/aftmax.png
with Ubuntu 8.04, no changes in Gnome or Inkscape. I have to maximize the window by hand. This problem occur only with Inkscape, so I think it´s not a Ubuntu theme issue.

I confirm the bug (on Ubuntu Hardy) ... if the height of the window is bigger than the screen (gnome-panel include), it's impossible to maximize window.

with a 1024x768 doesn't work but 768x1024 work

I have the same issue in Ubuntu 8.04, stock settings. Checking the "Make the main toolbar icons smaller" checkbox in the misc settings in the Inkscape preference (Ctrl+Shist+p) fixes the issue.

Setting "Make the main toolbar icons smaller" On doesn't work for me in a
1024x768 resolution.

Why if it is a confirmed issue noone changed the state of the report to "confirmed"?

Changed in inkscape:
status: New → Confirmed

I also have the same problem however trying the above doesn't work for me. However if I detach the left menu (with all the tools) - I can maximize/un-maximize the window.
Using --> Ubuntu 8.04 / Gnome 2.22.1 / Inkscape 0.46

Inkscape 0.46 seems work only in full screen (no panels); if it does exist a panel, i have problems with toolbars (every mouse clic causes confusion to window position). If i try to resize the window, i just can adjust the X, but not the Y. My suggestion is make occult the desktop panels. I use a 1024x768 resolution.

p.d. sorry for the bad english

That does seem to help, after checking and restarting inscape. However that doesn't really fix the problem. That is only a work around.

This problem still exists as of Sept, 14, 08. In Ubuntu Ibex 8.10 Alpha release ( or is Ibex already beta?)

The issue still exists in Intrepid. If Inkscape would remember that the vertical toolbar wasn't docked then it wouldn't be such a problem.

Other programmes have very similar problems (to do with the resolution being too small). I've seen it in Evolution, KmPlot, GIMP (less of a problem though), compizconfig settings manager and others.

It'd be great to see this fixed.

Enable Compiz and you can maximize Inkscape and to unmaximize just press Alt and grap Inkscape window.

Same problem in Kubuntu Jaunty @ a 1200x800 resolution. However, selecting the "Make icons smaller" option mentioned above and restarting the program fixed this issue for me.
