Bug Description

Binary package hint: miro

Hi, the current version of Miro in Hardy is completely unusable despite all the efforts put in by the ubuntu-devs.

The hardy built maintained by the Miro developpers themselves however works fine.
A quick skim through the hardy-miro bug reports shows almost only bugs that I can easily reproduce and which are fixed in the upstream version.

Because of the popularity of miro and because the current package is broken beyond despair (completely not usable: unable to play video, channel-list has formatting errors that make selecting a channel impossible, crashes when refreshing feeds, etc.) i request a feature-freeze-exception.

Either that, or remove the broken package from the repository completely.
The current version in Hardy works for no one, wastes their time and perhaps gives them a bad impression of this wonderfull program.

I'm not completely sure what the procedures are to get this baby moving, but my guess is that this has to be supported by an ubuntu-dev.

Please ship working Miro version or none at all.

I confirm that Miro is nearly unusable in Hardy Beta. "Channel-list has formatting errors that make selecting a channel impossible" is reported also as "Long channel names break channels frame", bug #195457

Importance: whishlist?

You don't have to sync. We can also just _remove_ the package.

Keeping the current package seems like a negative value proposition to Ubuntu, the Miro Devs and the Ubuntu users. Things that can happen:

1-It wastes people time when they try the program
2-It sends the message "Miro sucks"
3-It sends the message "Ubuntu sucks"

If we can't get a UVF exception, just _remove_ the package.

Discussion should probably happen on this list, and quickly, since tomorrow is Release Candidate day.

For what it's worth, I'm unable to reproduce *any* of these Miro bugs with the Ubuntu version, except for the rendering problem with long channel names - which is ugly, yes, but hardly renders the package unusable. Many, or even almost all, of the audio/video problems end up being due to libxine, fixes for which have been pushed out in libxine.
