Bug Description

VIA chrome 9 integrated graphics (K8M890) - KDE4 does not work, at least in Hardy 8.04. KDE3 does.

No one can launch KDE4 that has this chipset unless the driver is compiled from source. Login splash on LiveCD just continues to cycle. On an install from boot screen, the greeter screen comes up, the splash goes to the final large K, freezes, then the greeter screen (kdm) comes back.

This is NOT a permissions issue. It is not kdm or settings issue. No one has had success with getting KDE4 to work from my research with this graphics chip unless they go and compile the driver from VIA's source.

Since compiling the driver from source solves it, this is a bug in the shipped via driver.
