Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

Firefox 3.0 Beta 5 crashes when visiting the homepage of www.hulu.com. The crash is not totally consistent, as sometimes it will go to the homepage, but most times the browser window closes immediately. Crash occurs in safe mode as well.

Console output:
** Gtk:ERROR:(/build/buildd/gtk+2.0-2.12.9/gtkgtkplug.c:182):gtk_plug_set_is_child: assertion failed: (!GTK_WIDGET (plug)>parent)
Aborted

Backtrace attached.

I would say that this is most likely a flash related issue, as this page is quite flash populated. Do you have flash currently installed?

Visually, it does seem like Flash has something to do with it. The browser closes right as the Flash applet tries to start (showing a wide black box at the top of the page). I am using Adobe's Flash from flashplugin-nonfree 9.0.124.0ubuntu2.

However, if it doesn't crash, then the Flash works fine -- I can watch TV shows and everything -- no problems. It either dies immediately or it works perfectly.

Do you have the libflashsupport package installed? if so, uninstall
that.

Maybe try to use gnash by removing flashplugin-nonfree and installing
mozilla-plugin-gnash package.

Does any of these fix your crashes?

I had the same issue and followed Alexander Sack's recommendation to uninstall libflashsupport. This resolved my problem. I'm using flashplugin-nonfree.
