Bug Description

Henrik has new (smaller) WinFOSS content available, which should help us with
the squeeze on the live CD:

Oct 05 09:39:46 <hno73> mdz: I see that the latest live builds are still
over-sized. Are you using this Win-tarball:
http://www.theopencd.org/winfoss/ubuntu/current/ ?
Oct 05 09:40:29 <mdz> doko: ok
Oct 05 09:40:53 * spayne has quit ("Leaving")
Oct 05 09:42:11 <mdz> hno73: no, it appears to be using
http://maitri.ubuntu.com/theopencd/ubuntu/winfoss/latest/Hoary-WinFOSS.tgz and
similar
Oct 05 09:42:37 <hno73> mdz: ok, so changing that link should help
Oct 05 09:43:28 <hno73> but only by about 6MB :(
Oct 05 09:44:16 <mdz> hno73: we have things we can lose
Oct 05 09:44:27 <mdz> it isn't a showstopper for RC, only for final
Oct 05 09:44:30 <hno73> ok, cool
Oct 05 09:44:33 <hno73> right

Henrik, could you produce a reduced version of the Ubuntu tarball for amd64, the
same way you did for Hoary
(http://maitri.ubuntu.com/theopencd/ubuntu/amd64/latest/Hoary-WinFOSS-amd64.tgz)?
At 36MB versus 92MB, the normal Breezy tarball won't fit.

I've committed updates for the Ubuntu and Kubuntu breezy/i386 tarballs. I'll
leave this bug open to collect other changes.

Here: http://www.theopencd.org/winfoss/ubuntu-AMD/current/

Does Kubuntu Live need a slim AMD64 version too?

Actually, I'm 95% sure that the Kubuntu AMD64 WinFOSS needs to be slimmed down
as well (relative to i386) otherwise the Linux part would be smaller on AMD64
which I doubt. (I think it looks smaller now because it uses the Hoary tarball
which was only 36 MB. So ... I'v made a new one. The 4 relevant URLs are now:

http://www.theopencd.org/winfoss/ubuntu/current/Ubuntu-WinFOSS-5.10.tgz
http://www.theopencd.org/winfoss/ubuntu-AMD/current/Ubuntu-WinFOSS-5.10-AMD.tgz
http://www.theopencd.org/winfoss/kubuntu/Kubuntu-WinFOSS-5.10.tgz
http://www.theopencd.org/winfoss/kubuntu-AMD/current/Kubuntu-WinFOSS-5.10-AMD.tgz

Updated, thanks. We'll see how this looks after tomorrow's builds (or possibly
on Monday; I'll be away much of the weekend).

Ubuntu i386 is looking good, while AMD64 is borderline (or above?). Will you
trim the AMD64 image further, or shall I remove a Win32 app? Kubuntu doesn't
seem to have new daily builds yet.

I've found an extra 1.5MB by removing Smart Boot Manager from the amd64 live CD,
but I don't see anything else that can come out without more invasive measures.

This seems to be basically done now; the size issues are being tracked in bug
#23301
, and should be nearly solved now.
