Elisa blocks without warning when Pigment is missing

Bug Description

depending on the benchmark, elisa is blocking without telling the user ANYTHING, when you run it without pigment and it tries to do the benchmark.

Before, the user at least got a traceback, now nothing shows up (beside the splash screen, when killing the process)...

I agree that this is very confusing.

It took me a long time to figure out what was going on when I tried to run elisa, and it would apparently hang with no output whatsoever on either my terminal or X server.
