Bug Description
I really not sure what to do as can only access the desktop and no applications etc. I am only able to access the internet, by getting online help through file browser! Please can someone advise as l have only had ubuntu two weeks and it came pre-installed so l really have no clue.

Just installed Ubuntu 8.10 on my notebook. It was working fine until I did the initial recommended updates. There where about 235 of them. Once they completed and I rebooted the computer the Top and bottom toolbars/menu bars whatever they are called in Linux were gone. Thought it might just be the display settings, but I don't know how to get to them without the normal mouse menus to click on.
