Bug Description

Hello,
It seems this should already have been reported, but I can't seem to find it. I'm guessing there's some logical reason why, but I'm not a coder, or even a very experienced user of Inkscape, so I don't see it, so I'm going to submit this anyway. This is in v 0.46, which for me, replaces 0.44, so I don't know if this occurs in 0.45 or not. I'm running Windows XP sp2, fully updated, except for sp3.

When a gradienet stop is selected in the Gradient Editor dialog, then that stop's point is dragged along the gradient, on the canvas, the Offset value in the Gradient Editor dialog does NOT change. Now, if the point of a different stop than the one that's selected is dragged, then after dragging it, that point's gradient stop is selected, one can see that the Offset value HAS changed. And likewise, going back to the original scenario, where a selected stop's point is dragged (and the Offset value doesn't change), if a different stop is selected, and then the stop of the dragged point is re-selected, one can see that the Offset value has HAS changed. Or if the selected stop's point is dragged (and the Offset value doesn't change), then the Gradient Editor dialog is closed, and re-opened, once can see that the Offset value HAS changed.

The problem is that *while* a selected gradient stop's point is dragged, the Offset value in the Gradient Editor doesn't increase or decrease according to where the point is dragged. I guess I don't need to actually see the Offset value incrementally change during the drag. All that would be necessary is that the Offset indicator show the new value, at the end of the drag, without having to select another stop and re-select the dragged stop, or close and re-open the Gradient Editor.

This has been hard to describe in words, so I hope what I've weritten is clear enough. But if not, please feel free to ask for clarification :-)

Um, I just submitted new feature request, which if this Offset value display can't be corrected, would allow for easier changing of the Offset value. So I'm going to link it to this one by putting a link to each bug in a comment of the other.

So thanks for listening.
All best,
Brynn

unlikely to ever be fixed, gradient editor is going going gone as soon as we add offset slider to the toolbar
