IDE drive not detected

AMD 64 bit , IDE primary master + SATA
When I install to the IDE drive the system won't boot . It hangs at "waiting for root file system"
If I install to the SATA drive it will boot OK but the IDE drive is not detected.
All works fine with Gutsy.
