gnome-power-manager needs several minutes to load at startup

killall gnome-power-manager
gnome-power-manager --no-daemon --verbose &> g-p-m.log

Then attach the file "g-p-m.log" to this bug report. This might show where it hangs

I've got similiar problems with gnome-power-manager. The whole responsiveness of gnome-power-manager seems to be slow - it takes about a minute till ubuntu recognized that the AC was plugged in. Also when I want to shut down computer I get a dialog about gnome-power-manager not responding. There is a discussion about this bug at ubuntuforums

I'm running Ubuntu 8.10 32bit (fully updated) on HP 6720s...

I see the same behavior on my IBM ThinkPad x40.

Bug 288393 might be related?

I can confirm this on my HP Mini 1000, though it's more in line with what Andrej Zirko mentioned in comment 5. Unchecking "Reduce backlight brightness" and "Dim display when idle" under the battery tab in the Power Management Preferences fixes it, found here:

I can confirm that this behaviour is also present on my Acer Aspire 5633 WLMi Laptop. I can also confirm that unchecking "Reduce backlight brightness" and "Dim display when idle" under the battery tab in the Power Management Preferences causes the power system to behave normally.

I can confirm this on a Acer Aspire One A110

With the power cord attached, the system is responsive and works well, but on battery it i laggish, and "Suspend" and "Hibernate" isn't always present in FUSE. Clicking the battery icon to se how much battery is left doesn't work either.

However, the workaround to uncheck "Reduce backlight brightness" and "Dim display when idle" under the battery tab in the Power Management Preferences, works fine. With those two unchecked the system works just as well on battery alone as wiith power cord attached.

I believe it's a duplicate of bug 288393.

I can confirm this on a AOA 110 with Xubuntu 8.10. The workaround works fine. I noticed a large rectangle shaped box about 3 by 5 cm (h x w) that freezes a few seconds after the power cord is disconnected and also when its connected. It stays for a few minutes. The box keeps displaying whatever was displayed when it froze.

I am not running the standard kernel but instead Array's 2.6.27-8-eeepc.

But they say the problem might come from Xorg that gives false brightness values about the LCD screen.

On my HP Mini 1000, removing any dimming option in the gnome-power-manager preferences is a good work around.

Confirming problem exists on my Acer Aspire One HDD model. Can also confirm that the unchecking "Reduce backlight brightness" and "Dim display when idle" workaround works.

I can confirm this is still present on Karmic Alpha 5 - 64 bit version.

The power manager seems to hang for a while, then come back alive and start executing all queued events, such as suspend requests, etc.

I confirm it`s still there on Karmic RC 32bits
