Folders Containing DVD Rip not Recognized as DVD

Bug Description

I have to say this is my first media center download and I love it. My biggest issue is that it doesn't recognize my ripped dvd folders as the dvd's (ie, I can't load the menu from the folder and watch the full movie). I have my DVD's backed up (no more hassle popping them in and out :) ), I used DVD Shrink to do this, which keeps my menus and such and rips them as .vob's inside of a folder (I have the audio/video seperated). I'd like for the main folder (ie "Matrix" which contains video/audio folders with the .vob and the audio files) to show up as a picture (cover of the matrix dvd which I can find online) and then be able to just click on it and have the DVD start up from the menu. I can do this by right clicking the folder and doing "open with vlc player", it runs exactly like a dvd just from my hard drive....I'm not sure if it's possible to get Elisa to recognize the folders to be a complete dvd and just have it "clickable" so it loads the movie. I'm not positive this is a bug but it would be a fantastic feature. Thanks for the hard work!

I think related to this would have to be setting images as folder icons easily and efficiently (maybe having one universal file, such as .title.jpg that auto sets as folder icon). This way if people have backups of their DVD collection they can get the images and have them easily recognizable.

where can I get this? I added the ppa to my sources and it's still on 1.0.6

Thanks

scratch that, I got it.

It's A LOT better but it's still not flawless. I use DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter to backup my DVD's, so I basically have this setup for folders:

/home/user/movies/dvdname

then inside of dvdname there are two folders

audio & video

inside of video there are a bunch of .vob files.

That's the majority of my dvd's, but some I just used acidrip to get an avi, for those ones I just have

/home/uesr/movies/dvdname/*.avi

for the avi ones it's working perfect, shows the folder name and allows me to play them

for the majority of mine using dvd shrink and dvd decrypter this is not the case, instead all of my files are listed in the unlisted movie section and it just shows a really really long list of .vob files (and several other types), instead of having the folder where I can just push play.

This is an amazing program, I am looking forward to seeing it advance in the coming months.

As it currently is, Moovida will not index VIDEO_TS folders or .iso files. You will, however, be able to play them from the 'Permanent Sources', 'This Computer' etc. browsers.

Do you actually mean the folders being named VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS, not video and audio?

If that's the case, the .vob files should not show up in the library anymore. Bear in mind that the files won't 'disappear' from the library if they're already there, so you'd need to remove your moovida.db and have Moovida rescan your media folders.

I did a couple tests and found that the problem is a bit deeper rooted. I have some folders that are just the movie name, inside are a bunch of .vob files, and a few others (mostly the audio files), these are not in sub folders such as VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS. Moovida is not detecting the folder itself as a movie, instead all the files are being put in the unlisted section in a long list not ordered by movie or anything.

I also am seeing that even those folders that only have the .avi file are not consistently being treated as movies (most are, but several are not). I have a "Disney" folder, 95% are showing up correct, all were backed up the identical way (movie folder with a .avi inside and the captions files), not sure why all of them aren't working correctly.

Again, this is a great improvement, I hope that in the next release folders with .vob files inside are treated the same way as the .avi's are, then my whole collection could show up in the great interface that you guys have created.

.VOB files are simple MPEG files, that usually belong to a DVD but I don't think it would be good to assume that all folders with .VOB files in should be treated as a backed up DVD. That's where the VIDEO_TS folder comes in.

About the movies you're not seeing, do the .avis show up as movies, maybe? Maybe as TV Shows?

Better recognition is definitely in order, it's a big item in our ToDo list.

with the vob's:

I have two different scenarios, both of which are not functioning correctly:

1. Movie folder has sub folders "VIDEO_TS" & "AUDIO_TS"

2. Movies have no sub folders, all VOB files are just in the main folder

both of the above are not working correctly

With the .avi's that are not working right they are also being shown in the "uncategorized" or whatever that third option is within movies, they are not in the tv shows. Examples include Hunchback of Notre Dame and 101 Dalmations

Thank you much for this much needed upgrade, looks like things are definitely on the right track

I cannot reproduce the issue 1) i.e Movie folder has sub folders "VIDEO_TS" & "AUDIO_TS then the .vob files are shown in unclassified videos , niether on windows nor on linux.

As far as the issue of .vob files being directly placed in a folder then after adding that folder those .vob files being shown in unclassified videos is concerned , there is already a bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/427251 logged about it.

@sudesh - they are? They should not be... Moovida 1.0.7 should ignore all files under VIDEO_TS, AUDIO_TS or JACKET_P directories...

@Jmadero: No DVD source (.isos, VIDEO_TS dirs, DVDs) are categorized (or even -able) at the moment. That's just the current implementation and not being able to categorize is another issue. Please file a wishlist / enhancement bug about that.

Michał Sawicz (saviq) wrote :

Oh sudesh or did you mean you cannot reproduce so the .VOBs are not there? ;)

And his issue is different - there's no VIDEO_TS folder in his path (e.g /something/movie/VIDEO_TS.VOB) so there's no way to tell these indeed are DVD files.

Well, we could argue that having a VIDEO_TS.IFO file in a folder would indicate that the remaining *.VOB, *.IFO and *.BUP in the same directory belong to a DVD as VIDEO_TS.IFO is the entry point to every DVD Video disc. In that case we could index the IFO file and ignore the rest. That would be a bit more flexible and would not arbitrarily ignore VIDEO_TS folders.

Yes ,Actually what I meant was seeing a .vob file in unclassified videos is known issue (i.e if we directly add a folder which contains a .vob file irrespective of whether its a VIDEO_TS folder or not). As far as it being shown eventhough it being a subfolder is concerned ,that is something new or additional to know about the issue.

So am I mistaken or are you saying that even in the case of having a VIDEO_TS folder which then has the .vob files inside moovida the files will be ignored? Now that I look, I think I can see what Sudesh is saying, I have enough DVD's to where it's hard to tell "how many" are there really but it looks like the only ones showing are the ones that are directly in the Movie folder (not in VIDEO_TS) and that ones that have VIDEO_TS are being ignored. Is this correct behavior right now but will be implemented in a future release?

Michał Sawicz (saviq) wrote :

Yes this is correct. You can play the VIDEO_TS (or .iso) folders by going through This Computer / Other Computers file browser.

Just find the VIDEO_TS dir and instead of going into the dir it will play the DVD.

What's not currently implemented is indexing the aforementioned dirs / files in the Movies / TV Shows database. (That, BTW, requires some work in the Database Plugin to allow spanning multiple episodes in one database entry).
