Bug Description

Since the default sensitivty & speed of the trackpoint of my thinkpad is set to low, i use the commands:
echo -n 255 > /sys/devices/platform/i8042/serio1/sensitivity
echo -n 175 > /sys/devices/platform/i8042/serio1/speed
to modify them. After suspend/resume they are sometimes reseted to the default values.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in pm-utils.
For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of applications have bug reporting functionality built in to them. This can be accessed via the Report a Problem option in the Help menu for the application with which you are having an issue. You can learn more about this feature at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs

the settings don't get lost!
The trackpoint is recognized as a new trackpoint with default settings. After reboot your settings should be active again - if they're made permanent.

The device number can be recognized via:
/lib/udev/path_id $(find /sys/devices/platform/i8042 -name name | xargs grep -Fl TrackPoint | sed 's/\/sys\(.*\)\/name/\1/')

Example:
devices/platform/i8042/serio1/serio3/input/input1 becomes devices/platform/i8042/serio1/serio3/input/input6
after resume.

This is a kernel bug, isn't it?

Ray

Anyway, there have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test the current Ubuntu development version (10.10). If you can test it, and it is still an issue, we would appreciate if you could upload updated logs by running apport-collect 333792, and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.

I'm quite sure this is a kernel bug - i'd love to post a new bug, but neither apport nor launchpad lets me!!!

Launchpad itself gives me:
Timeout error
Sorry, something just went wrong in Launchpad.
We’ve recorded what happened, and we’ll fix it as soon as possible. Apologies for the inconvenience.
Trying again in a couple of minutes might work.

Apport crashes without leaving any comment in the shell

You can change the package in this same page to the linux-kernel one if you feel so. Just click in the "down arrow" next to the "Affects" field (now showing pm-utils)

Thanks, found it, can't be changed though, because there are only packages shown which are not being published by ubuntu?!
