Bug Description

I have burned the ISO-file to a CD-RW on my laptop (FSC Amilo i1505). The live CD works fine on that machine and under windows XP Media Center (Dutch) the autoplay function also works fine.
On my desktop however the live CD works well: I installed jaunty alpha 6 to a virtual machine with MS virtual PC v2007. However when I insert the CD under windows XP Professional with SP3 the wubi loader crashes displaying a window stating : exception processing message c0000013 parameters 75b6bf7c75b6bf7c 75b6b7c

I downloaded the ISO-file again but it gave the same message.

I have no further information like logfiles because this stage is never reached.

awaiting your response,
Hilco van Bergen

Can you please try to run the standalone version (http://people.ubuntu.com/~evand/wubi/jaunty/)? This seems an error in the pylauncher code, in case we will have to provide you with a version with debugging symbols.

From the link you've provided I've downloaded every version from r82 to r105.
Upon running them on my desktop from the same directory as the ISO-file they all crashed with the same message as mentioned above.

I can click the [cance] button in the window but the same message is repeated forever. I have to kill the process with process xplorer after wich i can click the [cancel] button and the message disappears.

Awating your further response,

Hilco ,

Can you please test with r108?

As requested I tested wubi r108 on my desktop.

Alas, it still crashes with the exact same message: exception processing message c0000013 parameters 75b6bf7c 4 75b6bf7c 75b6b7c
In the titlebar of the window it says: "windows - no disk"

In process xplorer i can see the following: the process Wubi.exe launches en starts up two other processes: pyl1c.tmp.exe and pythonw.exe. This is new for me, before it was just wubi.exe.
After the crash window appears, wubi.exe shuts down and the other to processes remain.
Now when i restart pythonw.exe (within process xplorer) and click cancel in the error message, lo and behold the wubi loader appears!
It only doesn't "see" the ISO file and starts downloading from internet.

Hope this sheds some (more) light on the matter,
Hope to hear from you again,
Hilco.

Can you please have another go with r115?
If that fails, please make a build within ubuntu using the following commands:

bzr branch lp:wubi
cd wubi
make DEBUG=1

Then run wubi.exe from a dos terminal in windows

Hi-JoBe,

I've provided the following build, built with debugging symbols, here:
http://people.ubuntu.com/~evand/wubi/jaunty/wubi-r117-debug.exe

As Agostino requested, please try this version.

Hello Evan and Agostino,

I'm sorry but I have some troubles with my computers for I've been infected with a trojan.
I had downloaded v115 and both the v117's but they were flagged as infected by a trojan by my AV program.
I have tried running them but they both didn't work. I blame the trojan for that and will be trying again in some time.

Just after trying this my router died on me. By using an old router and ubuntu i've been able to get internet working again, but for the next week or so i'll be concentrating on getting things in working order again.
Maybe this will be a good time to step over to Ubuntu for real .... ;-)

I'll let you know how it's going.
Thanks for your efforts sofar.
Hilco.

On two Windows Vista systems, on opening, Wubi crashes with an "exception processing mesage, ...". If there is not CD inserted, by clicking continue (continua) the error repeates until you close the task from task manager. If there is Ubuntu 9.04 CD inserted, by clicking continue, after some clicks, the error disappears and Wubi starts (but the installation does not complete, refer to Bug 366350: wubi 9.04 invalid argument on installation)

Thanks

I'm getting this as well.
Running wubi.exe on Windows XP SP3, I get alert
  Windows - No Disk Exception
  Processing Message c00000013 Parameters 75b6bf7c 75b6bf7c 75b6bf7c
This happened whether I ran Wubi rev. 129 or the wubi-r117-debug.exe that Evan Dandrea provides above..

If I click [Continue], I get about 10 more of these alerts. Then the Ubuntu install window appears as if everything is fine! I ran Process Monitor and it showed no errors, even if I monitored Processes beginning with "py". That is really weird. Nothing relevant in the wubi-9.04-rev129.log, I'll upload it.

I have an A: floppy drive, a regular NTFS C: partition, a mostly empty NTFS D: partition, an E: CD-ROM drive with nothing inserted, and a USB SanDisk SD card reader as G: with nothing inserted. I had iTunes and Norton 360 v3 running.

Upon restart with no iTunes but Norton 360 running, Wubi ran fine the first time! It had a timeout "Cannot download the metalink and therefore the ISO" (ubuntu servers are very busy, congratulations!). When I re-ran wubi, the exception alert reappeared, and then again during the uninstall of old wubi, and a third time before the Ubuntu install window. Each time I have to click [Continue] about 10 times.

The random explanations in http://forums.techguy.org/business-applications/561879-windows-no-disk-exception-processing.html mention a variety of programs causing this alert, including Norton 360.

http://www.consumingexperience.com/2007/11/windows-no-disk-exception-processing.html has useful suggestions. It sounds like some set of program interactions with Windows drive letters makes Windows pop up this alert at a very low level.

The logs seems fine, wubi tries to scan all drives to find a CD/ISO.

Same error here. I kept clicking continue (more than 10 times) and eventually it proceeded to the installer. A little annoying/tedious.

I tried with both wubi-9.04-rev128 and wubi-9.04-rev129. I was successful with 128 after clicking continue a lot.

I had this problem too. This article solved it for me:

http://sylefeb.blogspot.com/2009/07/linux-wubi-and-no-disk-issue.html

turns out the real problem is that our card readers pre-allocate drive letters for us, and that messes up Wubi scripts.

Hope that works for you too.

hi ygd_coder, you my friend, are a (pains my anti-religion beliefs to say this lol) a god-send....

soon as i disabled my card reader, instant wubi access...

i can confirm im on xp sp3, soon to be vista but, i can confirm, that it worked instantly.

this happens to the one on the main wubi website, so i would put this information on a page link, as a
link named something similar to "having trouble installing via wubi? click here"
with details on how to temporary disable the card-reader, or temporary remove drive letters (suggesting them to make note of them before they do anything.) and mabye even suggest a system restore?

thanks again buddy, really helpful indeed.
