Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Everytime my laptop is booted or wakes up from hibernation the display brightness is set to the lowest value possible. I then manually set the brightness via the gnome panel applet but these settings are not being remembered and so my laptop starts with low brightness again.

Linux laptop 2.6.31-3-generic #19-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jul 14 16:04:41 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux
Ubuntu karmic 9.10 (development branch)
Laptop: Fujitsu-Siemens Si3655

gnome-power-manager:
  Installed: 2.27.2-0ubuntu2
  Candidate: 2.27.2-0ubuntu2

Thanks for your report and working to make Ubuntu better. Is this a regression, did it work in Jaunty?

Yes, it seems to be a regression as I didn't notice it in Jaunty.

I recognized something important today: the startup brightness is not generally set to the lowest possible value but to the value specified in the power-management-dialog (which was set to 0% in my case). So it's basically not a real bug anymore depending on whether it is intentional that the brightness-applet is not in synchronization with the power-management-dialog.

Thanks for the extra detective work. This is a duplicate of:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-power-manager/+bug/35223
and
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=335673

since you would ideally like the startup brightness to remember the last brightness you entered. However, GNOME does not remember brightness and will always startup to the brightness saved in the gnome-power-manager preferences windows. I'll mark this as a duplicate of bug #35223 so you can follow work on it. Thanks again!
