Bug Description

I try to import an image file from a directory that contains >240.000 images. The following happens:
- Inkscape stops responding for >15 min while continually allocationg memory in small chunks (20-80 kb/s). I assume that is reading the directory (file by file?).
- After these >15 min Inkscape responds again and the file import dialog shows all files, as normal, and I can select the file I want.

Version: 0.46 (German, WinXPPro SP3)

Does other software take as much? 240.000 are a lot of files. This might be a problem with how windows search the directory for files. In directories with many files it takes a lot of time.

However you should check that there isn't any software generating previews of media files (Windows Media Player does this).

Other software does not take as long:
- Windows (explorer) needs <1 min to scan this folder, as does for example VirtualDub (It propably uses the Windows API).
- Deleting with the explorer takes something like one or two minutes.
- Copying with the command line (copy *.*) takes *very* long (I did not wait for it to finish, but it was >1 hour).

Concerning thumbnails: I do not use the thumbnail view in the explorer (There is also no thumbs.db in this folder), and I have deactivated the preview check box in Inkscape.

Hope that helps.

Yes, it helps.

Please, try the new version 0.47-pre1 from here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/inkscape/files/
I'm almost sure that this bug lies on the GTK+ dialog used for importing/opening of files. On 0.46 we were using the standard GTK+ dialog, but on 0.47 the windows standard file browsing dialog is used instead by default.

Try it, and tell us any differences you may experience.

0.47-pre1 works much better. Import dialog takes now ~20s to scan the folder. Thanks a lot!
(In other words: fixed)

P.S.: Should I submit a bug report to GTK+?
