External display not activated

Binary package hint: xorg

I booted an Alpha 5 cd to test Bug 359831 but the external display was not active. I went to System -> Preferences -> Display and clicked "Detect Monitors" and it wasn't detected. I ran the System Tests and they also failed to detect it but offered to file a bug, so I am.
