Bug Description

Binary package hint: gdm

Karmic emits a loud, annoying PC beep on shutdown or restart. This is a relatively recent development, only starting perhaps a week ago.

I have turned off everything in gconf-editor containing the name 'bell', but it hasn't helped.

Not sure the problem, but maybe it's an ACPI issue (guess).

Under System>Preferences>Power Management, try unticking "Use sound to notify in event of an error".

Does that help?

I can't see a tick box for that in Power Management. Is it in a different prefs app?
