Bug Description

I upgraded from Jaunty to Karmic (because, surprise! The karmic disk's GRUB does NOT like my laptop), so I probably got a faulty combination of things here.

The Ubuntu One client NEVER worked right. Always said there was a fatal error. This is, by the way, not very user friendly language. At least say "Aw, shit!" or something a person would say. When someone drops their coffee, they never say "FATAL ERROR!".

Anyway, after a reinstall, got the FATAL ERROR again. So the client didn't work. It never worked right for me. Why?

And what do I have to do to make it work?

Could you please provide more information regarding the FATAL ERROR you are seeing? For example, When are you getting the FATAL ERROR, how is displayed.

If there are there any syncdaemon-exception.log files in ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log/

Note, if you attach any log files to this bug, you may want to mark it as private as it may contain names of files and directories in it.

The FATAL ERROR is displayed in Ubuntu's version of the Windows ballon (a black box below my clock). The applet in the tray is a ! with two arrow around it, forming a circle.

It NEVER worked, it did this right out of the box.

I am searching for and attaching log files now.

John,
I am having a problem with Ubuntu One crashing on startup. When I start it, it has a red "X" though it on the task bar. If I click on it, it produces an error and closes out.
I read what you asked Vistro to run and ran it on mine. Hopefully it will help.

Is it safe to put the "KeyError" numbers in here? I wasn't sure if it contained any information I shouldn't be sharing.

Thanks,

Sorry, I thought I wrote that I was also adding the error from the log file.

AceKing,

could you file a separate bug about your issue and attach your syncdaemon-exception.log.... file that has the errors you are seeng?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu One better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu One since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test it on the most recent version of Ubuntu. When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running apport-collect 475051 and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.
