Bug Description

Binary package hint: gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly

Gstreamer 0.10 can not play freeformat mp3 (gstreamer 0.8 with the mad plugin can read them well, as well as mpg321).

It is simple to reproduce:

1) Rip any music to wav in /tmp

2) Compress it with lame using the --freeformat option:

   lame --freeformat -b 128 my_music.wav

3) Try to play it using gstreamer:

   gst-launch-0.10 playbin uri=file:///tmp/my_music.wav.mp3

If you want I can upload a short mp3 sample that presents the problem.

Thanks for your bug report. That works fine for me, can you attach the output of
  dpkg -l gstreamer0.10\* | grep ^ii

to the bug report?

I have the same gstreamer packages installed and uninstalled the ones that you do not have.

Although it works for me like a charm.

What you mean with "works for me like a charm"? It sounds good for you?

I have tried in three different computers (two AMD desktop systems and a old pentium III laptop with Xubuntu) and it sound horrible, with very weird noises. When I play it using mpg321 (instead of a gstremer based player), it sound *completely* different, without any weird artifacts.

I'm using 6.06.1 and that file will play (sounds like some guitar plucking) in VLC and Audacity, but gstreamer-based programs won't play it at all.
