Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-evdev

On lucid (fresh install from 28/02 snapshot) the keyboard doesn't work in X.

This affects both the built-in keyboard and the one I tried plugging in via USB.

Installing xserver-xorg-input-kbd from Debian and adding Option "AllowEmptyInput" "off" to xorg.conf make the keyboard function again.

I'm having the same problem on my old 12" iBook G4.

I installed xserver-xorg-input-kbd_1.4.0-1_powerpc.deb from debian sid and added Option "AllowEmptyInput" "off" to my xorg.conf as the instructions in the bug description suggests, and that does indeed make the keyboard work again. This was not necessary in karmic though. udev issue?

I am having the same problem with Lucid on a Dual-G4 FW800 MDD Mac - no keyboard. I'm not familiar with the Debian Sid repositories. What is the URL of the repository containing xserver-xorg-input-kbd_1.4.0-1_powerpc.deb ?

I don't think this is a duplicate of bug #513932. That bug appears to be fixable via running dpkg-reconfigure console-setup, which didn't work in my case. I think this is specific to the PowerPC.

I was able to find a copy of xserver-xorg-input-kbd_1.4.0-1_powerpc.deb on a Debian mirror server. I installed the .deb with dpkg, booted into recovery mode to generate an xorg.conf, edited the xorg.conf as suggested above, rebooted and still do not have a working keyboard. I tried a live CD of Lucid prior to upgrading and the keyboard worked fine. Maybe there is something boinked in the distribution upgrade. Unless there are other suggestions, I'm going to try a clean install in a few days.

I ended up backing up /home and doing a clean install. Everything is working now.

The bug #513932 doesn't appear related. That is a gksu grabbing focus bug. So I'm deleting the duplicate designation.

clarification: #513932 gksu grabs focus, not allowing onboard keyboard to enter password.
