Bug Description

Release: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS

In notification area, some application icons are showing a white background. I am facing this problem with Banshee, VLC and Skype. For the ease of understand I've attached a screenshot of my notification area. As the Radiance theme using a light background, it'll take some times to realize that some of the icons are not using a transparent background. This bug also affects the Dust, Dust Sand and New Wave themes.

I am using the following versions of affected applications:
Banshee 1.6.0
VLC 1.0.6 Goldeneye
Skype 2.1 (Beta) for Linux

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.
I tried to reproduce your problem, but I couldn't. For me, on all themes the launcher icons get the right background.

Please answer these questions:

* Is this reproducible?
* If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?

This will help us to find and resolve the problem.

- Not sure. I am using the default Ubuntu setup. I've installed the Ubuntu 10.04 freshly (no upgrades from karmic or jaunty). The only change that I've done is: I removed the bottom panel and added Cairo dock instead. VLC and Banshee icons are non-transparent from the very beginning (as same as the attached screen-shot). But In case of Skype the icon has been changed after I tweaked some settings (which I am describing below).

* If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?
- When I installed Skype for the first time it shows the icon perfectly (with transparent background). But after installing Cairo Dock, I was facing problems about receiving videos from the other end of the Skype. So I googled the problem, and found out the following solution:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=8390933&postcount=13
I tweaked the settings according to that link and video problem has been solved perfectly. But the icon of Skype in the notification area became non-transparent.

Ok, I thought you were talking about launchers.

This particular bug has already been reported and is a duplicate of bug 403135, so it is being marked as such. Please look at the other bug report to see if there is any missing information that you can provide, or to see if there is a workaround for the bug. Additionally, any further discussion regarding the bug should occur in the other report. Feel free to continue to report any other bugs you may find.

However, you also reported an issue about skype. That's not a software package provided by the official Ubuntu repositories. Because of this the Ubuntu project can not support or fix your particular bug. Please report this bug to the provider of the software package. Thanks!
