Bug Description

Me-TV v 1.3.2 and couple of earlier (Fedora) releases fail to show DVB subtitles for me.
They used to work last spring, I guess with v1.1.x at least, maybe also with some v 1.2.x versions.

When the stream is recorded, for example VLC can show subtitles just fine.
Attached a short (4MB) file recorded with Me-TV where the subtitles were not shown on view time, but can be later seen with VLC.

me-tv use xine to render video and audio. Try playing your recorded video with xine. Unfortunately, no developers have subtitle so testing is complicated.

The attached video clip is rather (too) short, but yes, Xine can see and show the subtitles (fin) but not automatically, they have to be selected from Xine menu Subtitle/channel/fin
For example, when video clip is started with Xine, SPACE will pause the video and one can find and choose the subtitle "fin" from the Xine menu.

The clip is so short, that Xine actually has no time to show the only subtitle in the end of the clip, but vlc can show it. But nevertheless, Xine can find the subtitle, but not automatically. I try to upload longer video clip with subtitles later if it is any use.

BTW, for debug purposes Me-TV could enable playing recorded videos from a file through its system just like MPEG-TS stream would come in from the DVB-adapter.

Here is a longer video clip recorded with Me-TV. (bzip2 compressed for 12% smaller size)

Me-TV cannot show the (fin) subtitles which are in the stream.

vlc can see and show the subtitles when selected from vlc menu:
Video/Subtitles_Track/DVB_Subtitles [Suomi]

Also Xine can find and show the subtitles when selectd from the Xine menu:
Subtitle/channel/fin

Accidentally there is some nudity in the video clip to lure to test it.

I'm thinking of moving subtitles to an unsupported feature and having an "--unsupported" command line option if you want them enabled. It's not fair on users to imply that they work or are tested. Unless someone fixes them.

This implies that you are expecting Me TV to show them automatically. Did I read that right?

Not quite.
Me-TV does not show subtitles currently at all; not automatically, not manually.
I nowadays have to use VLC to see those channels which use subtitles.
Subtitles used to work in previous versions.

Is there a way to play video clip (MPEG TS) through Me-tv in some emulation mode so one could try that Derrick clip?

No, there is no way without writing code.

Are the subtitle menu items missing? Or is it just when you select them they don't display.

The subtitle menu items are not missing. "0: fin" is there and even automatically selected, but still no subtitles are visible. Fullscreen/window doesn't make a difference either.

Can you please attach the output of `me-tv -v` for a channel that has subtitles where you select them and they don't work. Please disable the "preferred language" feature as it adds extra complexity.

me-tv -v log file when automatic-subtitle-selection feature is on and when subtitles do not show.

Hmm...disabled the "preferred language" feature, and it seemed to work when I manually select "0: fin" then from the menu.

Then I tried again with that feature enabled. No subtitles. Video/Subtitles shows "0: fin" correctly selected automatically, but it won't show subtitles. Also tried to select "None" and then "0: fin" again, but it didn't fix it.

So seems like the feature to automatically take some subtitles in use is broken.

Two log files. The first (this) is with automatic-subtitle-selection feature on,
the second log file (later) is without and manually selecting the subtitle, when it works.

I wonder what those "Failed to wripte to output channel" lines mean in boh log files.
