Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

When looking at a file's permissions in Nautilus (non-root) there is no way to change the file ownership. While I understand the reasoning for this I think the program would be well served with the addition of that ability and a prompt to enter root mode to perform the action. Currently the only way to set the file owner is to either use the terminal, or to launch Nautilus as root.

I think that Nautilus should offer full functionality to the regular user and simply prompt for root credentials when the action requires it (sort of a built in sudo).

Is this something we can add?

This 'bug' exists in Ubuntu 10.04 with all recent updates.

Thanks for the report, it has been some time without any response or feedback in this bug report and we are wondering if this is still an issue for you with the latest release of Ubuntu the Natty Narwhal, May you please test with that version and comment back if you're still having or not the issue? Please have a look at http://www.ubuntu.com/download to know how to install that version. Thanks in advance and sorry for the late response.
