Bug Description

I think this option should be enabled by default on edgy. I'll try to justify this change even this late/so close to release:

1. GNOME doesn't support the same user logging in more that once. Period.
 1.1. Havoc breaks loose if people try to do it.
 1.2. It might break user's configuration permanently.
 1.3. People loose faith on ubuntu's stability.

2. Those who use this feature probably don't use GNOME and should thus be considered power users who can/should read changelogs/release notes to be aware of such changes.

3. This can be reverted when (let's have hope) GDM, gnome-session, gnome-screensaver and gnome-power-manager get integrated as they should be to provide the user with a seamless session experience.

Please do consider to change this option for edgy.

Thanks

Thanks for your bug. gdm is acting that way for ages, nobody complained about breaking its configuration or loosing faith on ubuntu stability because of that since warty, there is no reason it because an issue to fix right now during the freeze for edgy. We will consider it after edgy

Please make this change for Feisty. Logging in to a new session doesn't work correctly for the default session, so we shouldn't offer it. If the user has specialized requirements, they can modify the configuration.

Already fixed in fact:

gdm (2.17.6-0ubuntu1) feisty; urgency=low

  * New upstream version:
    - More verbose error messages from GDM daemon and gdmsetup when
      custom.config file is missing. Now GDM will not start gdmsetup if the
      custom.config file is missing, but instead display a pop-up
      dialog with an error message.
    - Remove redundant GenericName from gdmsetup.desktop.
    - Fixes so code compiles with c99 compilers.
    - Translation updates
  * debian/patches/02_default_config.patch:
    - use "AlwaysLoginCurrentSession=true" (Ubuntu: #67628)
