Bug Description

Binary package hint: gpointing-device-settings

I have recently installed Maverick on an Asus seashell 1215t netbook and have set the "start point" of circular scrolling to the right edge. Whenever I restart the system, it automatically reverts the start point to the center, which is really annoying because whenever I try to move the cursor using the middle of the touch pad the page I'm on scrolls. It would be nice if my settings were remembered so I didn't have to open up the device settings each time.

For what it's worth, you can add "synclient CircScrollTrigger=3" to your startup programs, changing the number as appropriate.

Tried gpointing-device-settings in Natty and this appears to no longer be an issue. Setting the right edge for circular scrolling stays selected after a reboot.

I've upgraded to Natty and the problem persists for me too. I'm using Gnome rather than Unity.

I realized that my original description is off--I described it as selecting the center as the starting point, but it actually it starts up with all regions selected EXCEPT the center. This means that a tiny portion of the center of the touchpad can be used for moving the pointer while most of the mousepad initiates circular scrolling.

attached is a patch which corrects the following:
* circular scrolling start point saved in gconf, was not saved at all
* scrolling speed saved as int, was saved as bool

Reading properties worked correctly, so adding on or more of the following in gconf in /desktop/gnome/peripherals/SynPS... works as a temporary fix:
circular_scrolling_trigger = 3
vertical_scrolling_distance = 255
horizontal_scrolling_distance = 255

Also in Natty it doesn't save "Enable vertical scrolling when dragging with two fingers" and "Enable horizontal scrolling when dragging with two fingers" states.

There is something different with that setting, it does save it's setting, but doesn't load/activate it.

Another small bug is that the sliders for scrolling speed (vertical and horizontal) are the wrong way around, here is a small patch to fix that. (sorry if I should have opened a new bug for that)
