Bug Description

Binary package hint: unity

Ubuntu 11.04. In gnome I could drag file from nautilus or gnome commander to minimized application icon in running windows list. And when application restored I could release file on application window and it file will be open in this program. In unity I can drag file to launcher and window restores too, but when I release file, it not opens in this application.

Actually it does work !! You have to drag the file on to the launcher. The icon of the application that can open the file will be highlighted. Just drop the file onto it, and the file will be opened in that application.

In case of minimized application, dropping it into the application that restores works in most cases for me.

See the attached video. Please try out the demo in the video. It should work. If not, check if you are running latest version of unity.

I am running 12.04 beta 2 (64) with the latest updates and dragging anything into a gnome-terminal icon or elsewhere on the launcher does not work. I see only one way to do "drag and drop" is to set "always on top" option for an opened terminal windows and then drag and drop file into it. Very inconvenient! I had to install gnome-panel to do the trick!
