Bug Description

1) Windows XP Home Edition. Build 2600.xpsp_sp3_gdr.101209-1647n(service pack 3)
2) Microsoft Office 2007
3) OpenLP 1.9.6
4) Select Theme Manager
Stripes already present on supplied sample theme images.
Click on 'Create a New Theme' in Theme Manager and select an image.
The black stripes appear on selected image.
If the selected image contains text, this is partly obscured by the stripes when the theme is used. It can only be compensated for by overriding the Output Area Locations in Main and Footer areas to 'X' position of at least 120px.

What size is you output as the images are sized at 1024x768 and if the output screen is of a different resolution then a black outline would be visible.

If you resize the images to the size of your display the black line would go away.

Most users seem to use 1024x768 at present.

Tim

My laptop display is 1280x800 and no matter what I do with images, I still have the same problem.
Even your sample images display the same problem.
If I change my laptop screen resolution to 1024x768 the display quality is unacceptable. But I tried creating themes from images at this resolution anyway. The result was the black lines shifted from the sides to top and bottom, although thinner.

Regards
Peter

Go here and download a background sized at 1280x800 and see if the problem still exists

Yes thank you, I downloaded the background and it worked fine as a theme.

I have been trying to create church logo images to use as themes using MS Powerpoint, and have tried saving as png, jpg, or bmp files. But there is no way I can get the required 1280x800 resolution for OpenLP.

I guess I will have to try printing them out and then see if I am able to scan them back in at that resolution.
Do you have a better suggestion?

I gave up trying to save ppt files as jpg (at a given resolution), because there is no place in ppt to set the resolution without "hacking" the windows registry. (Even then you can't get the size you need).

I would suggest you do the "save as" as you are presently doing and then use a free program such as FastStone Image viewer or InfranView to re-size the images to the resolution you want.

I think I have cracked it now, thanks to your help. My solution is as follows:

If using Powerpoint, it must be saved as a bmp file. Then use PAINT to open the bmp file and change the Image Attributes to show resolution of 1280x800. Then save as png or bmp file, or as required.

If using any other image, likewise open with Paint and change the attributes as above.

I guess anybody using a laptop will have this problem because of the type of screen that laptops use, so maybe it should be included in the user manual. My solution is a bit messy, but it seems to work. While typing this, I see you have made a similar suggestion, but not using Paint.

Many thanks
Peter

Peter,

Glad to be of a little help. You may want to take a look at GIMP (open-source alternative to Photoshop) for creating backgrounds.

Here's a site with this and other open-source editors.

Peter, what resolution is your projector? It is important not to get confused with how big your screen is compared to how big the project's output is. You may see black stripes down the side of the theme when you don't have the projector attached, but if you set the themes up when you have a projector, they will display fine on the projector.

As I said to someone in IRC a few weeks ago, I strongly recommend setting up OpenLP with your projector attached so that you can set it up accurately.

Raoul. Thanks for this. I have been setting it up at home without the projector. I will go into church and try it out.

@Peter:

When you change the resolutions/display setup the little theme preview images (http://manual.openlp.org/themes.html) are not updated (so the black border could still be present on the little preview but not on the slidecontrollers or live display). If you finished setting up/changing resolutions you might want to go to "Tools -> Update Theme Images", which will update the images.
However, not sure if that actually helps you. If not, don't worry. :-)

Cheers
