Bug Description

I removed gstreamer-alsa 0.6.x from my system and while I still have sound (I
have gstreamer 0.8 installed), the volume-control icon on the gnome panel now
looks like it's mute (it's not though, I still have sound). When I move the
slider, it doesn't "stick" (it goes down to volume 0). It seems that Ubuntu
comes with gstreamer 0.8.x, but this particular gnomevolume app needs 0.6.

Can we have please a recompiled/fixed version of gnome volume that doesn't need
gstreamer-alsa 0.6?

What's the output of "ldd /usr/lib/gnome-applets/mixer_applet2" ? The mixer
should be linked with gst 0.8 ... we don't even have gst0.6 in the main archive.

It is indeed libgstreamer-0.8.so.1 => /usr/lib/libgstreamer-0.8.so.1 (0x40040000)
No idea then why the gnome-volume misbehaving after removing gst-alsa 0.6.4 from
the system (which was automatically installed because of a dependancy from
another app I installed via universe I think).
Could you at least remove gst 0.6.4 from all the ubuntu repositories and
recompile the apps that need it?

I don't think we can just rebuild an app made for 0.6 with 0.8. BTW only
gstreamer-player and libkdegst0.6 seems to still require the 0.6 version,
removing it should not be a problem. I'll check if we can do this soon.

Ok, kdemultimedia and ruby-gnome2 use it too. A new version of ruby-gnome2
should be uploaded soon and kdemultimedia 3.3 doesn't have this depends, when
the new version of these 2 packages will be available it should be ok to remove
gst0.6.

gstreamer 0.6 is no longer part of Ubuntu main, so I believe this bug can be closed.
