Bug Description
For whatever reason, in Ubuntu OO, gedit never starts on the first attempt. It always starts on the second and additional attempts.
I did find this in .xsession-errors:
** (process:1675): DEBUG: zeitgeist-
The icon shows up in the task bar for a few seconds, fading in and out. Then it just disappears when you click on it.
To reproduce, go to the dash search, type in gedit, then click on it.

Ah, found something else out:
In on terminal, run gedit. Nothing will happen. Then, in a second terminal, run gedit again. Now a window pops up. The interesting thing is the second instance exited immediately. The first instance is still running, but now the following message appears on STDERR:
** (gedit:5671): CRITICAL **: _gedit_ app_get_ window_ in_viewport: assertion `GEDIT_IS_WINDOW (window)' failed
I had a similar problem with empathy's chat window not showing up the first time you click Chat (but it does the second time.) Is this perhaps a problem with Unity?
