Regression: pyexiv2 0.3.1 doesn’t work with Python 2.6

Bug Description

The documentation for pyexiv2 states that it requires Python ≥ 2.6.
However, the latest release (0.3.1) doesn’t work with Python 2.6.

This is because a couple of functions were inadvertently introduced that require Python 2.7.
